7 of the aluminum frames are corroded in the corners.
My window frames are corroded, bubbling and flaking, mostly in corners and around screws.
Looking at different avenues: First I contacted the Maker, looks like American Marine made the Albin window frames back in the day.
They are still in business and a :30 - :40 minute drive from my dock.
Sent them pictures and measurments for an estimate on 10 new frames.
Don’t think I will go that route.
Talked to Jas Powder Coating here in Fort Lauderdale, they will sandblast and powdercoat all 10 frames for $550.
The backside of that route is uneven and corroded aluminum surface defects that the paint and primer will not cover up. (Can’t use filler when powder coating due to baking @ 400 degrees.)
I may take the worst frames to a metal shop and have them fill the corroded areas with aluminum weld, then sand and polish.
Another option is a local contractor who can make new frames in plastic. Should be cheaper and almost maintenance free, but he has not come back with an estimate yet, guessing somewhere in between.
Fort Lauderdale is an expensive town full of mega yachts, hence some of the contractors are charging mega yacht prices: Got an estimate for painting the hull sides flag blue the other day, $17,500. (Do we have an icon for shaking head and rolling eyes at the same time?)
Thx, you did good.
Besides. I am retired, need something to play with to keep me out the bars..
