ArcGIS Blog

We are excited to announce that Collector for ArcGIS on the Windows 10 platform is now available in the Windows Store. Now organizations can collect and revise data in the field, take maps offline, and monitor work progress on the platform of their choice: Windows, Android, or iOS.

Besides including all of Collector’s standard features, this release also incorporates a few Windows 10 specific enhancements. For example, the app can run in either desktop or tablet mode so you can work side-by-side with other business applications. This release also includes support for existing enterprise authentication and authorization architectures.

Look out for more enhancements for Collector, including support for Windows 10 Mobile, to be released next year. In the meantime, continue to send us your ideas and stories at Collector4ArGIS@esri.com.

When I try to connect my portal, I got the error “Invalid client_id”. How to fix?

Hi shryu thank you for sharing! We are aware of this issue and are currently developing a utility to fix it. It will be distributed in the near future. For more information about this problem, see this article: http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/45931

While it’s nice to see this finally available on Windows it is incredibly frustrating that it only works on Windows 10 when it will take some time for many organizations to get to 10. Given the enormous expense of ESRI products you’d think that they would be able to do better than that! The inability to customize forms and forcing us to use ArcGis online is causing me to look for OpenSource alternatives.

jkesri – Thank you for sharing your comments. We decided to focus in on Windows 10 platform given its ability to build UWP apps and match the capabilities of Collector on the iOS and Android platforms. We do have additional product that we are building to support custom forms and runs on earlier releases of Windows – it is called Survey123 for details (please take a look at http://survey123.esri.com/).

I agree that no support for Windows 7 is extremely frustrating when it is by far and large the leading enterprise OS. ESRI really dropped the ball here and failed to recognize that most latge enterprises only recently moved to Windows 7 after being forced to when Microsoft announced that they would be ending extended support for XP. Given that, it will be many years until Windows 10 Enterprise edition dethrones Windows 7 Enterprise and Esri will see the adoption rate of Collector for Windows suffer for that. As Jeff citrs, Esri made this choice because frankly, they wanted to reduce maintenance efforts by producing a Universal Windows App, which makes sense. There is one way for Esri to address the glaring oversight though. Produce a Collector for Windows 7 app using AppStudio and the ArcGIS Runtime for Qt and then post the code to Git.

Is Collector for ArcGIS available for Window 7 Professional?

Hi rtuong, thank you for your comment. No, Collector for ArcGIS is only available on Windows 10. Please see above comments for more information.

Is routing or directions to here available in the Windows version?

No, routing is not currently available in Collector for ArcGIS on Windows 10. When we added routing support for Collector on the iOS and Android platforms, Navigator for ArcGIS did not exist. Now that it does exist, we are evaluating whether routing is needed in Collector.

Could you share some more context about how you intend to use routing in Collector? This would help us understand whether this feature is needed in Collector. My email is egibson@esri.com. Looking forward to your response!

Thank you for bringing this to Windows 10! My company is now purchasing Windows tablets (because they can run the full version of OneNote as well). Running the full version of OneNote allows our new Windows 10 tablets to be compatible with our Windows 7, Office 2010 PC’s whereas the mobile version of OneNote that runs on iOS and Android is not compatible with OneNote 2010.

Two questions: 1. When can we expect a Windows 10 Mobile version? I would like to be a beta tester for this! 2. Is anyone working to allow PDF’s to be attached to features? Currently, only image uploads are accepted.

Thanks for bringing this!

Happy to hear that you are excited about the app! To answer your questions, we will have support for Windows Mobile sometime in Quarter 2 of this year, and support for attaching PDFs to features within an upcoming release of Collector. Currently, you can attach images, as well as videos, to features.

Is there any update on when support for attaching PDFs will be arriving? With construction season picking up, we would really like to have this feature available as soon as possible.

Additionally, is there any plan to add pen input to Collector? With the Windows 10 Anniversary build coming out in June, developers will be able to add pen input to any application with only a few lines of code. Even being able to doodle on a map with our construction information overlaid would be beneficial. Below is a link to a demonstration at Microsoft’s recent Build Conference for developers. Skip to about 5:00 to watch the demonstration.

Is there an update when Collector will be coming to Windows Phone? You mentioned Quarter 2 of this year?

I have developed field surveying apps but my organisation only uses Windows Phone, so they cannot be used.

I justed published to ArcGIS Server an editable feature service. I logged into my portal for arcgis and created the map and saved, I then logged into Collector for ArcGIS on Windows 10 via Portal, clicked on the map that has the editable feature service and my feature service does not load. Clicking on the layers error message and this is what it shows;

net_http_message_not_success_statuscode. For more information, visit http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Linkid=623485

This causes an issue with our company which I have 100 users for Collector via Apple devices (phones) which I’m needing to move to windows tablets.

We have installed ArcGIS Collector for Windows on a Motion F5V tablet which doesn’t have touch screen capabilities. Only the tablet pen can be used for navigation and we cant figure out how to zoom in and out of the map. Is there a + and – zoom button hiding somewhere? If not is there plans to add one?

Hi fmgl, there is not a way to zoom in and out of a Collector map with a stylus, and we do not plan on adding +/- zoom buttons to support this at the moment, because very few users have requested this. However, we will consider adding this function if a lot of users request it. Could you send your suggestion and workflow to Esri Support (http://support.esri.com/phoneSupport#us)? They keep track of such requests. The Collector Team would appreciate it!

I’m testing Collector on a Windows 10 laptop, and I can’t zoom in or out using the touch pad either. I’ll have to use a mouse, I guess.

fmgl was asking about zooming in/out in a slightly different way than you want to.

Just to understand your problem more, are you able to zoom in/out using the touch pad in the Maps app that automatically comes on Windows machines?

How come the collector app for Windows 10 is limited in how much map detail we can have in downloaded maps? This limitation does not exist in iOS. Also, when a map has been downloaded to a device on Windows 10, only the offline map can be accessed. Why can’t I choose to access the map online or offline depending on what my needs are?

sorry – replied to wrong post!

No worries hdaw

Can I use tablets with Windows 10 to navigate to a point and collect data in the field? No GPS? No internet service?

Microsoft Lumia 950XL not supported? Cannot see the Collector app in the Microsoft store on this device.

Is sideloading tile packages per https://geonet.esri.com/thread/90177 supported? Where is the ArcGIS_Collector folder?

I am wondering this as well.

I am having an issue with subtypes. The dropdowns I created from domains work fine, but the dropdown that are created from subtypes don’t seem to work. They do however work fine on my android tablet and phone. Any suggestions?

I am using a Lenovo tablet with Windows 10, and once a feature is edited on another device the subtype appears to respond normally, just not on an initial use.

I have noticed that my location (blue dot) on Collector is not even close to being correct when using a Verizon Hotspot. Anyone else have this issue? I have tested this several times at different times of the day and location is always way off and jumps around a lot.

rgerasim – did you ever fins a resolution for this? We are attempting to use a Surface Pro Win10 with a Verizon hotspot and are having issues.

unable to connect to my ArcGIS portal. I have installed collector on Microsoft surface windows 10, unfortunately unable to connect

below is the error mention.

unable to connect using provide url

same url works for android devices

Have you already logged a case with Esri Support for this issue? I just saw that someone else did, with the exact problem as you.

Is Collector for ArcGIS on Windows 10 available for download directly from ESRI?

(Not using the Windows and other Store)

No it is not. If you are having issues with downloading Collector from the Windows store, I suggest contacting Support: http://support.esri.com/contact-tech-support

Hi, when installing Collector in Windows 10 we have this error number and can’t install it : 0x80073CFP

Do you know where it comes from and how can we fix it?

Thanks in advance!

I have not run into this error before, so I asked Esri Support to reach out to you about your case. They should be contacting you soon.

They did already.

Great, no problem!

Webmap that opens fine on Android device will not open on Windows 10 Surface Pro. Error say: “The map failed to open”. Other webmaps will open in Collector on Windows 10, but not this one particular webmap. Any Ideas?

Good day am very happy to hear about this app. but i need help from you people on arcgis more and more

Glad to hear you’re enjoying Collector for ArcGIS! Have you checked out the Collector documentation here: http://doc.arcgis.com/en/collector/ ? It might answer some of your questions. If not, please let me know.

I am trying to use the collector on a Window 10 laptop. I want to connect a Trimble R2 unit for better accuracy. I have connected the R2 unit via Bluetooth. I open up collector and to go settings>Location>Location provider. I went to Add a reliever and added the R2 unit. then I clicked on the unit and clicked the Switch button – it spins and then spits back an error “connection failed”. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

Have you installed Trimble’s GNSS Status app? This is required if you are using the Trimble R2. If you have, did you enable NMEA output through it?

The Collector for ArcGIS app is apparently not yet available to use on a Microsoft Windows Phone. According to the blog, it was slated to released for Windows Phones sometime last year but I have yet to find it in the Windows Store. Is there a work-around for the Collector for ArcGIS app on a Microsoft Lumina 735 Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 without using Survey123 or GeoForm?

Hi mwhitten, sorry for the late response. But I’m glad to see you’re getting your questions answered in the below thread on GeoNet, which is a great place to pose these types of questions.
