There are A LOT of flyby nighters and hacks out there. I even had a guy that had a great reputation (the best in the area by far) try to trick me into getting something I already told him I did not want. (I wanted a brick to brick install).

With an insert measuring errors can be hidden with flashing, and you loose some window area. We went with a brick-to-brick install too.

my house does have brick exterior but the window frame itself is wood from what i can see

please don't take this the wrong way , but if you put any value on your time at all , i as a professional could match or beat the handy man's price and provide you with the security of a warranty , over 23 years in business , wsib and 5 million dollars liability coverage , etc. we would likely be under 500 dollars per window in this size as a brick to brick complete with the interior finished. just an fyi , again every area has different rates , but i feel under 500. for this size for a quality window is totallly doable.

1300 with all materials needed.

400 but I was getting better windows and all installation done.

http://reliancewindows.mobile-website.ca/howto.php I was warned not to pull the metal frame even though rusted as it gives support. I wonder if a proper brick to brick would require a steel lintle on top?
