While we do like the modern interface offered by Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, there is one thing that we definitely dislike: it's rather difficult to create custom shortcuts to different apps and configuration panels, including the new Settings app from Windows 10. That's why we decided to give you our own special shortcut for PC Settings in Windows 8.1 and Settings in Windows 10, which involved a bit of custom scripting. The shortcut works for both operating systems:

The Desktop Shortcut To PC Settings And Settings

Download the archive at the end of this article and extract it. Inside you will find the PC Settings.exe file. Copy it to the Desktop or any other location you see fit.

A double click or tap on it will launch PC Settings in Windows 8.1.

In Windows 10, it will launch the Settings app.

How To Create A Shortcut To Settings In Windows 10

Unlike Windows 8.1, Windows 10 does offer a way to create a shortcut for the Settings app. It's just not easy to figure out that you can do this.

To create a shortcut for the Settings app, open the Start Menu and drag and drop the Settings link to the Desktop or to any other location you see fit.

The shortcut will be created where you have dragged it. You can now access the Settings app directly from that shortcut.

Conclusion

We're confident that this little trick is useful to an important number of users who prefer using shortcuts instead of going through lots of menus and buttons, in order to launch useful panels like PC Settings in Windows 8.1 or Settings in Windows 10. If you are looking for other useful shortcuts for Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, don't hesitate to check our recommendations below.
