Windows On Mac: How To Use Boot Camp to Change Your OS

If you’ve got a new Mac computer, you might not know how to use it. Depending on whether you don’t want to retrain yourself for a new OS or you are just more comfortable with Windows, there are plenty of ways to get your Windows on Mac.

You can also find a couple of different applications that will help you get your programs from Windows on Mac.

Avoid Virtual Machines

While it’s possible to create a virtual machine that looks like you have Windows on Mac, this process will greatly cut away from your RAM and your performance. If you don’t want your computer to be running slowly while you run Windows on Mac, don’t use a virtual machine. You’ll also want to avoid using programs like Rainmeter to create a Mac computer that looks like windows, or vice versa. While it does look cool, it isn’t always worth what you lose in performance.

Installing Boot Camp

Boot Camp is the best and easiest way to get Windows on Mac, but did you know you can also use it to get Mac on Windows? The program works both ways, so if you want to change your OS, you can.

To put Windows on your Mac you will need:

  • Laptop Computer

  • 10-16GB of Free Space

  • Latest Updates

  • Licensed Versions of Windows OS of choice (7, Vista, XP) with Service Pack

  • Boot Camp Download

Check to make sure you have the right Boot Camp download for the Windows to Mac or Mac to Windows conversion you want to do. There are several downloads and you want to make sure you have the correct one.

Next, you’ll want to check for updates on your Mac computer. It won’t work quite as efficiently on Windows OS if you haven’t gotten the latest downloads.

Finally, back up your data. You can use an external hard drive, cloud or even a paid for backup program such as Norton. Just make sure you have a copy of your Mac computer stored away in case you change your mind about wanting Windows on Mac, or if something goes wrong during the transfer.

Does Boot Camp Put Windows on Mac

Boot Camp is the only Apple approved software for putting Windows on Mac. This is because it’s the only software that switches the Mac OS to Windows OS without taking away from performance, memory or etc.

Boot Camp gives the Windows OS full access to your Mac computer processors, hard drive and RAM cards meaning that you will have full access to a running windows OS on your Mac. It won’t be running over your Mac and it won’t be an installed theme. You will actually have a Windows OS on your Mac computer.

Switching Between Mac and Windows Computers

Boot Camp is also great because it allows you to easily switch between Mac and Windows on your computer. After installing Windows on your Mac, try pressing Option (alt on Windows). This will switch you back and forth between the two OS systems. You can set your default startup OS through the Startup Disk Control Panel (via Control Panel) on Windows or for Max, Startup Preferences.

Boot Camp works by creating a partition on your hard drive. In the same way that you can partition any Windows computer, you can partition a Mac and install Windows on it.

Putting Windows on Mac is a great idea if you want to use Windows software on your Mac, want to create a more familiar partition on your Mac, or even make it accessible to someone you know who doesn’t know how to use a Mac.

If you’re a gamer, you should also consider putting Windows on Mac because most of the awesome games for computers are for Windows. While there are some for Mac computers, it could be said that compared to Microsoft Games, the choices are few and far between.

Will you be putting Windows on your Mac computer? If so, what are your reasons? Let us know in the comments below!
