This tutorial is about Windows 7 USB Installation. Below are steps with screenshot. No CD is required. All you need is a usb flash drive of atleast 4GB and Windows 7 iso file.

Steps for Windows 7 USB Installation

Download Windows 7 Ultimate ISO 34 Bit / 64 Bit

If you don’t already have windows 7 image then you can download free windows 7 ultimate ISO.

Windows 7 USB Tool

First of all Download this program. This is Microsoft genuine tool to make usb drive bootable

After you have downloaded above Windows 7 USB tool. Now follow below steps.

Open this tool from your programs.

Then Click on Browse button and go to path where your windows iso file is located.

Click on WIndows 7 iso file and click on Open button.

Now from options click on USB Device.

From Drop Down box select your USB Pen drive letter e.g. H: or I: or G: and then click Begin copying. After the process is completed the USB is now bootable. Turn off your computer and plugin USB. Now Turn on PC and boot from USB. Done. If you have any issues with this tutorial then please comment here.

Download the Rufus Software from Download Button and Open it.

After you open it. Follow Below Steps:-

• Plug in your Pen Drive into USB Flash Port.


• To make a Windows bootdisk (Windows XP/7) select NTFS as file system from the drop down.


• Then click on the buttons that looks like a DVD drive, that one near to the checkbox that says “Create bootable disk using:”


• Choose the XP ISO file.


• Click Start


• Done!

You can Install with dual boot option. During Installation of 7 don’t format or delete C partition. This will take you to dual boot. By the way windows 8 is best in performance as compared to 7

This error arises when you try to make 64 bit windows 7 usb from a 32 bit computer. So the solution of this problem is to copy bootsect.exe file to usb at the end of process when you get error.

Bootsect.exe can be downloaded

Your files will be on your computer. Please make sure before installing new window that your hard disk is partitioned and you only format C drive. If you have a USB of 8gb or greater. Then you can partition your USB in two drives. Make both drives bootable with different versions.

Thats because the ISO file you are using is not valid. Try the original windows 7 iso which I have provided. Otherwise open the previous ISO file in ultraISO and in properties windows do the following:

You Need to Uncheck the Box Joilet and Uncheck The Box Omit ISO 9660 version Number and Check Mark UDF.

That bootsect error appears because your are making 64 bit windows 7 bootable iso from a 32 bit computer. Just download bootsect.exe and place it inside usb and ignore the error.

This error comes when you are making 64 bit iso bootable from 32 bit windows. To solve this issue just copy bootsect to flash drive

Yes Keith is right. This error comes when you are trying to make boot of 64 bit windows on 32 bit PC. You should try it on 64 bit.

Try to clean some unused softwares. Run CCleaner as well in PC. Disable themes. Remove browser toolbars etc.

I have Ubuntu installed and it won’t let me install windows seven and I’ve followed the instructions but it keeps going to the log in screen for Ubuntu instead of booting from the USB and I even set it to boot from USB first.

Change boot sequence settings in your bios

create a new text document and type the above and save as autorun.inf….. then add it too the setup files on ur usb drive…. you’ll notice autorun.inf is not present in original setup files from iso

Windows 7 ISO are working. I have tested them.

Windows XP SP3 can be only installed using WinToFlash.

Please follow this tutorial to solve invalid ISO issue.

You should download “Universal USB Installer for Linux” . Then create Windows 7 bootable USB using Universal USB Installer in ubuntu. Once bootable USB is created. Boot from USB and install windows 7.

After you create bootable USB. You need to restart PC and boot from USB. Change boot sequence of your PC

Boot sequence means the order of prioritization in which devices should boot. If you specify USB boot higher than hard disk then computer will boot from USB for installation of window.

When you receive the error. Just copy the bootsect after error and reboot PC. The error during bootable creation will not stop. You have to avoid it.

Which window is installed already in your system? If your system has higher window like windows 7 and 8 then XP boot is unable to detect the drive structure. You have to format the whole PC using some bootable Partition tool and delete all partitions. Then try to install window.

Yeah of course. Just plug in USB and then restart. Press F9 for boot options (the button may be different for your PC). Choose your USB Pen drive and installation will start. .part extension means window was not downloaded completed. if it was completed then follow below link to fix this issue.

If it still can’t boot then there might be issue with your downloaded iso. It might have gone corrupt.

Extract magiciso? Why would you do that? This is ISO of Windows 7. You need to make its bootable on USB and DVD. Follow simple steps above.

The best way is first take your backup. Then Delete all partiotns. Create fresh partitions in custom menu. Then install Windows 7 on that.

I think your PC doesn’t support USB boot. Also check from BIOS settings if USB boot is enabled.

Don’t worry. You can easily upgrade from windows 7 Starter to ultimate. The starter is not available for 64 bit. Windows 7 Starter only comes with 32 bit. So install it. Then update it. Hi, sorry I had college today – all done thanks, even got he program I originally needed! Just a few issues – it asks me to active within 30 days but can’t see an license. can I use the one I have under my laptop for windows 7 starter or is there something else I need to do or will it resolve if I click active onliine? also – I lost my office 7 starter and it came with the laptop pre-installed 2nd hand. I noted you have some office programs and understand it is not your goal to, so please advise in an email if necc. what I need to do about getting my office back [will i now have to purchase a license] or thanks for all ur help

Took a bit of fiddling as my vista laptop was full of rubbish and no memory available on c drive but used wife’s windows 7 laptop to prepare the usb and formatted my laptop hard drive. Worked a treat but in tutorials useful to mention once it restarts you need to remove the usb else it starts installation again. Thanks great website have recommended already.

I just setup my new PC, all that is left to do is to download windows 7 ultimate. I downloaded the 64 bit version from this website and also I used a USB device with the Windows 7 USB tool, that I also downloaded from this website, to put the windows 7 ISO file on my USB device. But I only get as far as step 4, where it says, “We were unable to copy your files. Please check your USB device and the selected ISO file and try again.” I did as I was told and still came up with the same result (But I did not re-download the ISO file though). Please help. I already have a license and I just need the windows 7 download.

I’m trying to upgrade my 32bit into a 64 bit but when I saved the 64bit file I got a error message saying that it was unable to run bootsect. If I use the online help it tells me to donwnload the 32bit but that won’t really help me. What do I need to do to upgrade from 32bit to 64bit?

You don’t need to burn it on DVD. Simply use ISO in bootcamp.

Hi have an old laptop fixing it up for 12 yr old was running xp couldnt find drivers for xp so I tried out some LINUX OS, He cant get the hang of that so Im trying to go back to windows. I found this site and have followed instruction how ever it wont load like normal (guessing linux is to blame), has anyone tried this and if so what did you do to fix 🙂

Follwed instructions from inserting usb into switched off pc/laptop then turning on it worked guessing laptop had to catchup or something lol.
